what's new
Disability Alliance has teamed up with Remploy to provide a new independent advice service called Benefits of Working. This is for people using Remploy's services who are thinking about starting or returning to work. We are very excited about this new project as we know that many people trying to make the move from benefits to work worry about how their benefits will be affected and may not know what other support could be available.
DA Chief Executive, Vanessa Stanislas, says:
"We are very pleased to have worked in partnership with Remploy to develop this essential advice service. Our independent advice will be available free for disabled people seeking information on their benefit and other support entitlements when seeking work."
DA is concerned that recent welfare reform and additional pressure to work has not always been accompanied by independent, authoritative advice and support on what benefits and other support is available to disabled people (re)entering work.
DA and Remploy believe it is important to understand the often complicated benefits system and all of the different kinds of support available for different people depending on their circumstances. The new Benefits of Working service aims to assist this and address the gap between the pressure to get into work and the lack of independent information available.
The new service was launched on April 1st 2010.
Vanessa Stanislas continued:
"We believe our new service will be a useful, free source of information and support, particularly for disabled people, in a complex benefits system and with fragmented support available from disparate sources."
DA will continue our work with DWP, HMRC, our partners in the Disability Benefits Consortium and other stakeholders to improve the benefits and tax credits system.
