The Government is proposing to abolish the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (C-MEC) as a non-departmental public body, and transfer its functions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. It will do this using the powers in the Public Bodies Bill, currently before Parliament.
This is a structural change, and the consultation does not imply any change in the services delivered to customers. The consultation was aimed primarily at those who have a professional relationship with the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission, although all views were welcome.
The closing date for responses was 3 January 2012.
