Council tax is a charge made by your local authority to cover services which they provide for you. It applies to England, Scotland and Wales.
If you are liable to pay council tax you may be able to reduce the amount that you have to pay by claiming council tax benefit, a discount, a reduction for disability or an exemption.
Factsheet F43 - help with council tax is a basic introduction to help with council tax. You can find out more detailed information in Disability Rights UK's Disability Rights Handbook, available to buy at www.radar-shop.org.uk/.
All our publications are available at www.disabilityalliance.org/shop.htm. You can also place an order by contacting Disability Rights UK on 020 7247 8776 (this is not an advice line) or by fax on 020 7247 8765. All our factsheets are available at www.disabilityalliance.org/fact.htm.
