MacMillan Cancer Relief 'Better Deal' campaign

Disability Alliance has lent its support to MacMillan Cancer Relief's 'Better Deal' campaign, which aims to stop people with cancer from suffering financially. The campaign want the government to:

• Ensure is offered specialist benefits advice to every cancer patient once their cancer has been diagnosed
• Change the rules on disability living allowance (DLA) and attendance allowance (AA) for cancer patients in the following ways:
1. abolish the 3-6 month qualifying period for cancer patients
2. allow hospital in-patients to keep their DLA/AA for 52 weeks
3. scrap the 28-day linking rule which means that DLA/AA is lost after several linked stays in hospital
4. change the definition of terminal illness from 6 to 12 months.
