Independent living fund (ILF)

13 April 2011

The independent living fund provides financial help with your care package to help you remain in the community rather than enter residential care.

On 13 December 2010 Maria Miller, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Work and Pensions announced that the ILF will be permanently closed to new applications.

If you are already getting ILF payments this support should continue. Maria Miller has stated that there will be a formal consultation in 2011 aimed at determining how best to "continue to support existing users of the ILF in to a social care system based on the principles of personalised budgets".
