This Green Paper, published 21 March 2005, set out a vision for adult social care over the next 10 to 15 years and how this might be realised. It invited people to give their views on the vision and the ideas set out in the document, as well as to contribute new ideas to the debate.
More than 100,000 people took part in the consultation process over the four months from March to July. Health Minister, Liam Byrne said:
"The responses tell us that there is strong support for personalisation and individual budgets, shifting the balance of services to address a wider prevention agenda, to support people to maintain their independence and social inclusion. They tell us that we can achieve better services for individuals through a stronger alliance with the NHS and the development and support of the workforce."
These responses were published 19 October 2005. They will be considered when the Government produces a White Paper later this year.
