Employment minister Jim Knight outlined a new future for Jobcentre Plus where jobseekers would be able to apply for their benefits, improve their computer skills and look for jobs on line.
In a speech given to the Work Foundation on 2 December 2009 he outlined a future where everyone would have access to the internet and where Jobcentre Plus website would be more proactive in using the internet to provide support to jobseekers.
"By the end of the next Parliament I want to see Jobcentre Plus at the vanguard of bridging the digital divide, improving skills, and returning the UK to the very high levels of employment we built under this Government and are determined to restore."
Employers should also be able to post vacancies directly, view potential matches, and manage their recruitment through a personalised website.
