Changes to Income Support for Lone Parents and Jobseekers Allowance for all Parents

It is intended that, from 24 November 2008, lone parents whose children are aged 12 and over, will move onto jobseekers allowance if they are capable of work, or employment and support allowance if they have a disability or health condition.

The Government plans to further extend this support to lone parents whose youngest child is 10 from 26 October 2009 and whose youngest child is 7 from 25 October 2010.
