Motability was established to provide disabled people with safe, reliable and affordable cars. You can use this scheme to hire or buy a car or powered wheelchair or scooter if you have been awarded disability living allowance (DLA) high rate mobility component (or war pensioners' mobility supplement). Motability also provides grants for driving lessons.
The scheme is covered in greater detail in our motability factsheet. You can also read information about the motability scheme, together with other information concerning help with mobility needs in Disability Alliance's Disability Rights Handbook, available at www.disabilityalliance.org/drh33.htm.
