The government intends to move towards exempting patients with long-term conditions over the next few years.
The government asked Professor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians to review prescription charges, taking into account the views of patients, the public, patient representative bodies, clinicians and healthcare organisations on effective implementation to exempt those with long-term conditions.
Professor Gilmore has now submitted his report on the prescription charges review to the Department of Health. His recommendations are now being considered by the Department, who will publish the review's report and its response to the recommendations in the new year.
