Retirement pension

A contributory benefit payable to men on reaching age 65 and women on reaching age 60. Contributions can be paid by the person receiving the pension or their spouse or civil partner in the case of couples. Claim using form BR1. You can also make an online claim.

From 6 April 2010 women born on or after 6 April 1950 will no longer be able to retire at 60. To find out your retirement date go to the DirectGov state pension age calculator

From 6 April 2020 the state pension age for women born on or after 6 April 1955 will be 65.

From April 2024 state pension age for both men and women increases to 66 between April 2024 and April 2026.

From April 2034 state pension age for both men and women increases to 67 between April 2034 and April 2036.

From April 2044 state pension age for both men and women increases to 68 between April 2044 and April 2046.
