Lone parents whose children are on DLA care not expected to look for work

Following pressure from the Liberal Democrats, regulations which exempt lone parents with children up to the age of 16 in receipt of higher and middle levels of disability living allowance (DLA) from mandatory work-related activity will be extended to include those receiving the lower level of DLA.

The Welfare Reform Bill, which finished its Report Stage in the House of Lords on Tuesday 3 November 2009, already enables people in receipt of the middle and higher rate of DLA to be exempt from work-related activity by regulation. This regulation will be now be changed by secondary legislation to include those receiving the lower level of DLA.
